Syphilis and HIV 2 in 1 Rapid Test

Intended Use

Syphilis and HIV 2 in 1 Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is an in vitro diagnostic rapid immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of antibodies to HIV 1 and 2 and Treponema pallidum (TP, the causative agent of syphilis ) in human whole blood, serum and plasma specimens. Syphilis and HIV 2 in 1 Rapid Test is designed to detect antibodies to HIV 1 and 2 and TP simultaneously in one test. This may be used as an aid in the diagnosis of HIV infection and syphilis. A reactive result should be confirmed by supplemental testing.

Introduction

HIV and syphilis usually affect similar patient groups and co-infections are common. Cross-sectional studies demonstrate that a history of syphilis or genital ulcer disease is associated with an increased risk of HIV infection13. Therefore, all patients presenting with syphilis were recommended to receipt HIV testing and all HIV-positive patients were recommended to be regularly screened for syphilis. Detection and treatment of syphilis can help to reduce HIV transmission14.
