Rubella IgG and IgM Rapid Test

Intended Use

Rubella IgG/IgM Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is intended for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of IgG and IgM antibody to Rubivirus in human whole blood, serum or plasma specimens. Rubella IgG/IgM Rapid Test is for professional use only.

What is Rubella?

Rubella, also known as German measles, is the disease caused by Rubella virus which is the only known Rubivirus species and belongs to the Togaviridae family1.

Rubella is a typical childhood infection, usually with a mild course. By contrast, primary infection of pregnant women during the first half of pregnancy and subsequent vertical transmission of the virus is a serious event, often leading to miscarriages or congenital rubella syndrome2 (CRS). It may also cause prematurity, low birth weight, and neonatal thrombocytopenia, anemia and hepatitis. The risk of major defects or organogenesis is highest for infection in the first trimester. Many mothers who contract rubella within the first critical trimester either have a miscarriage or a still born baby. If the baby survives the infection, it can be born with severe heart disorders (Patent ductusarteriosus being the most common), blindness, deafness, or other life-threatening organ disorders. The skin manifestations are called "blueberry muffin lesions"3.

Rubella virus-specific IgM is a sensitive and specific indicator of an ongoing or recent Rubella viral infection while Rubella-IgG indicate previous exposure to an antigen6. The rapid test of Rubella IgG/IgM is particularly useful for the follow-up of pregnant women who were not previously exposed to Rubella and consequently are not protected against the virus.

Symptoms
